In "Fear Itself 3: The Hammer That Fell on Yancy Street," the Avengers are pushed to their limits as Skadi’s forces overwhelm Washington D.C., culminating in a shocking loss that leaves Cap dead and the team fractured. As the remaining heroes struggle against allies and enemies alike corrupted by the mystic hammers, a dangerous transformation begins when Thing touches one of the artifacts, turning him into the monstrous Angrir. Meanwhile, Thor defies Odin’s orders to destroy Earth, only to be exiled to Midgard to face certain death at the hands of the Serpent. Written by Matt Fraction and illustrated by Stuart Immonen, with colors by Laura Martin and letters by Chris Eliopoulos, this pivotal issue sees the stakes rise across both Earth and Asgard, all under Steve McNiven’s striking cover.

A contingent of Avengers try to defend Washington D.C. against Skadi and her forces. They are overpowered and Sin (as Skadi) kills Cap. The rest of the Avengers split into small teams and try to battle friends and foes who have been taken over by mystic hammers. Unfortunately, as the Future Foundation is investigating another hammer, Thing touches it and transforms into Angrir. Meanwhile, on Asgard, Thor defies Odin and his plan to decimate Earth so the All-Father decides to exile him to Midgard to be slaughtered by the Serpent.
