50 Reasons to Stop Sketching at Conventions #[nn] (2006)
Canadian artist Stuart Immonen was born in 1967 and has built one of the more versatile careers in mainstream comics over more than three decades. He first appeared in credits around 1990 and has remained consistently active ever since, working across both major publishers with notable fluency.
At Marvel, Immonen became closely associated with several high-profile titles: Nextwave, Ultimate X-Men, The New Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man, and a long run on Ultimate Spider-Man. His work on All-New X-Men further cemented his reputation as a reliable anchor for marquee books. At DC, he contributed meaningfully to Action Comics and The Adventures of Superman, and his credits on Legion of Super-Heroes reflect a comfort with ensemble casts and complex visual storytelling.
Beyond work-for-hire, Immonen co-created Empress with writer Mark Millar for Millarworld, an original series that demonstrated his range outside established superhero universes. Throughout much of his career, his pencils have been inked by Wade Von Grawbadger, a partnership that has given his pages a distinctive, polished consistency.
Immonen's draftsmanship is characterized by clean linework, expressive characters, and strong storytelling instincts that suit both action-heavy sequences and quieter character moments. With over 450 credited issues across a career spanning more than three decades, his body of work stands as one of the more substantial in contemporary mainstream comics.
