“Love Above All!”

In "Love Above All!", office worker Joan escapes to Manor Lodge for a summer of romance and fortune, only to find her plans upended by a chance encounter with Hal, the insurance agent she brushed off on the train. As her pursuit of the wealthy Poynton unfolds, she’s surprised to learn Hal is working at the resort—and his quiet honesty forces her to confront her own values. Jack Sparling’s expressive art brings the emotional turns to life, while Al Avison’s cover captures the story’s bittersweet tension.

Office worker Joan takes her vacation at fancy Manor Lodge, hoping to find a rich husband. On the train, she meets Hal and they hit it off, but he’s “only an insurance agent” and she wants more. At the lodge, she makes a play for wealthy Poynton, then discovers Hal is working at the resort for the summer. Hal criticises Joan for her mercenary attitude and she eventually decides he is right: she loves him, not Poynton.
