Peggy’s big date takes a chaotic turn when Freddy realizes he forgot to ask her to the school dance, only to learn she’s already going with Rip. Desperate to change the outcome, Freddy schemes to sabotage Rip’s plans—only to find himself unexpectedly sidelined when Rip’s injury and a series of mishaps leave both boys unable to attend.

Freddy is excited when a nice girl shows interest in renting the upstairs apartment, but his hopes are dashed when the family changes its mind—only to learn the girl isn’t moving in after all. Instead, Freddy’s father ends up staying in the apartment, and the girl’s daughter arrives, leaving Freddy stunned by the mix-up and stuck babysitting her son.

Peggy is excited for her birthday and wonders what Freddy will give her, unaware that he’s already given a costly necktie to another girl. When Tiny tells her about the gift, Peggy is hurt and vows to never give Freddy a present—only to later find herself searching the city dump for a replacement gift, hoping to make things right.

Thaddeus Tantrum is trying to enjoy a peaceful fishing vacation, only to be disturbed by Freddy Finch, who’s staying next door and causing chaos with his loud antics and borrowed violin. As Thaddeus tries to avoid Freddy’s constant interruptions, the boy accidentally ruins his fishing and butterfly collecting, but later makes up for it in unexpected ways. The story ends with Freddy preparing to play the violin at dinner, leaving Thaddeus both exasperated and resigned.

Freddy and a group of boys play a prank by dressing as women to test whether strangers will whistle at them, only to be startled when a real group of girls reacts with shock and disgust. After a moment of confusion, they realize the girls misunderstood their joke, and the boys laugh it off, relieved and amused by the mix-up.
