Paul, a kind young man, befriends a talking kettle after trading his family’s cow for it in the city. The kettle, claiming to be a magical guardian of justice, sets out to return stolen gold to its rightful owner—Paul’s mother—by confronting the miser who tricked Paul into giving up his wealth.

Uncle Fuzzy Hare, Happy Hare, and Bruno Bear embark on a long walk up sixty floors to Uncle Fuzzy’s office after the elevators close, deciding to pass the time with a rotating entertainment routine—Bruno sings, Happy tells riddles, and Uncle Fuzzy promises a sad story. As they climb, the mood shifts when Uncle Fuzzy hesitates to share his tale, hinting it’s the saddest ever heard, but the others insist he go on.
