Betty Bates is drawn into a web of deception when Red Skoras, a gangster with a grudge, tries to enlist her as his lawyer, only to be rebuffed. She soon suspects that Basil Wulff, his former associate, is behind a staged assassination attempt using a so-called lucky talisman to lure a gullible mark—possibly a wealthy superstitious man at a high-stakes gambling club.
