One story depicts a child asking her mother for various toys and gifts—a teddy bear, doll, tea set, coloring book, and Halloween costume—before bedtime, with the mother eventually running out of patience. Another story involves firefighters responding to a cave fire, where they are thanked by a grateful mayor. A third story shows a man struggling with language barriers as he attempts to communicate, holding English, Spanish, Greek, and French language books while confused about what is happening around him.
Hunk, a young boy with a dinosaur that doubles as a fire extinguisher, is named Fire Chief after his dino puts out a blaze with a single squirt. When a new fire breaks out, he and his friend Cecil race to respond—only to discover the flames are coming from Hunk’s own cave, where his mother has been roasting a meal. The story follows their chaotic, water-soaked efforts to help, with plenty of splashing, shouting, and laughter.
Cecil visits Charlatan's Gym, eager to gain big muscles fast, only to be tricked into a series of exhausting and absurd exercises—lifting weights, doing calisthenics, enduring a steam bath and massage—before being handed a pile of bones instead. When he protests, the gym owner insists he’s delivered exactly what was promised, leaving Cecil bewildered and the bones guarded by a surprisingly fierce tiger.
Moppet is stuck in bed with a cold, determined to stay home from kindergarten, and insists on being pampered with every toy, treat, and comfort imaginable—until her antics lead her to invent a wild plan to bottle sunshine and bring it down from the sky. With help from her friend Hunk, she builds a makeshift scaffold and tries every trick in the book to warm up the winter world, all while dodging her mother’s warnings and her own growing frustration.
