In a boomtown plagued by disappearing men and sabotage, John Wayne teams up with Moose Benton, a newspaper editor harboring a dangerous secret—the discovery of an ancient lotus flower with mind-bending powers. When Wayne uncovers Benton's scheme to enslave men through the flower's narcotic effects, he finds himself trapped in a deadly game where an age-old myth becomes terrifyingly real.
When a drifter named Waco accepts a dare to spend the night in the supposedly haunted Butterman House, he vanishes—leaving John Wayne to investigate the sinister property and uncover far more than restless spirits. Beneath the ghostly legend lies a counterfeiting operation, complete with deadly traps and a hungry alligator guarding the criminals' secrets. Wayne must outwit the gang and rescue Waco before the "haunted house" claims them both.
