“Seven Devils”

In "Seven Devils," the JSA faces a dire test when Hawkman and Hawkgirl narrowly escape execution, rallying the team to confront the terrifying Onimar Synn. With the villain absorbing all Nth metal on Thanagar—including the Claw of Horus—direct assaults fail, forcing the heroes to find a deeper, more personal solution. Written by David Goyer and Geoff Johns, with dynamic art by Stephen Sadowski and inks by Michael Bair, Dave Meikis, Paul Neary, and Rob Leigh, this pivotal issue features bold colors by John Kalisz and Heroic Age, and sharp lettering by Ken Lopez. The cover, by Andrew Robinson, captures the tension of the moment.

Hawkman saves himself and Hawkgirl from their execution and then helps the rest of the members of the JSA escape their own fates and regroup as a team to take on Onimar Synn. But the villain absorbs all the Nth metal on Thanagar, including the Claw of Horus, and the JSA's direct attacks prove useless. It is only when Hawkman and Hawkgirl unite their spirits to take back control of the Claw of Horus and tear Onimar Synn apart from the inside that the villain is defeated.
