Michael Bair (born Michael A. Hernandez) is an American comics professional who has built his reputation primarily as an inker over a career spanning more than three decades. Working across both Marvel and DC Comics, he first appeared in credits around 1986 and remained active through 2022, contributing to nearly 200 issues in roles that also included penciling, coloring, and writing.
Batman #443 (1990)
His Marvel work includes a run on Alpha Flight, while at DC he made his mark on titles such as Hawkman, JSA, JLA: Year One, The Kents, and Batman. It is his long-running collaboration with penciler Rags Morales, however, that most defines his legacy. The two began working together around 2002, and their partnership produced some of DC's most talked-about work of that era, most prominently the miniseries Identity Crisis — a mystery story that drew significant readership and critical attention upon its release and cemented Bair's standing as one of the more reliable finishing artists of his generation. His inking style is generally understood to complement and enhance a penciler's linework rather than overwhelm it, a quality that made him a sought-after collaborator. No specific birth date, birthplace, or major awards are on record in the available sources.
