Junior Hancock and the gang plan a canoe-picnic up the river, and Junior borrows his father's old camera to capture the day—only to discover it's a valuable collector's item his dad had just promised to trade in for a new one. What starts as a sunny outing quickly becomes a comedy of mishaps as the camera faces one watery disaster after another, and Junior scrambles to keep his promise that he'll take good care of it. By the time the rain starts and everyone heads home soaked, Junior's got some explaining to do—and his father's got some news about what that camera was really worth.

When Gwenny convinces Deena not to enter the school's "Cover Girl" contest, Deena discovers her friend is actually trying to clear the field for herself—with Junior Hancock, the magazine editor, seemingly in on the scheme. Determined to prove Junior's fairness (or expose his favoritism), Deena changes her mind and enters after all, setting up a tangled afternoon where misunderstandings, football accidents, and conflicting plans leave everyone scrambling.
