Undeterred by this revelation, Kindred Soul tracks down Gerry's address and visits his home, discovering that Gerry is actually a girl—much to Kindred Soul's surprise and delight. The story concludes with Kindred Soul's successful romantic connection with Gerry, who agrees to knit a sweater for Junior as a gift for the hay ride.
Junior hopes to score the hottest record of the season—Ken Stanton and his Snare Sextet—for his birthday party, but a comedy of errors erupts when multiple friends decide to give him the same album. With only one copy left in town and a broken record creating chaos, Junior faces a birthday dilemma that might just teach him something about luck and gratitude.
Deena spots Gwenny buying yarn and a boy's sweater pattern at the department store, and when she realizes it's meant for Junior, she decides to knit the same sweater herself to give him first. The two teens race against the clock in a rivalry over who can finish their gift in time for the upcoming hay ride, each convinced their present will win Junior's favor.
