Kathy is smitten with Monsieur René, the new French teacher, convinced he’s the epitome of romance—until her imagined date with him turns into a series of comically disastrous mishaps. When Hank, her friend, steps in to challenge the teacher for her affection, things escalate in absurd fashion, revealing a very different reality behind Kathy’s fantasy.

Kathy is thrilled by the prospect of a birthday package from Uncle Hawthorne or Aunt Louella, racing to the post office with her brother Hank only to arrive just as it closes. As the evening unfolds, the mismatched pair share a series of increasingly absurd and exaggerated antics at a soda shop, culminating in a chaotic food-fueled frenzy that leaves Bingo stranded and his date nowhere to be found.

In a lighthearted tale of canine ambition, Kathy Crane rallies behind her scruffy dog Gyp when his rival, the fancy Emperor, is favored to win the Kennel Club Show. With a mix of stubborn determination and a few hilarious mishaps—including a bath gone wrong and a dramatic showdown with Emperor—Kathy and Gyp face mockery and doubt, but find unexpected courage and heart.

Kathy and Fanny both apply for a school lunchroom job, leading to a playful rivalry as they compete to prove who’s more popular with the patrons. When the dean and a visiting Mexican educator arrive, Kathy’s accidental creation of a spicy salad unexpectedly wins praise—leaving the outcome of the competition hanging.
