“The Dog With No Name”

In "The Dog With No Name," a quiet moment of compassion takes center stage as Sue Stringly shares her heartfelt wish for Christmas: a light on the old water tower to guide in the ducks that keep flying into it. When another duck crashes during a visit from Veronica, the girls take matters into their own hands, climbing the tower with a flashlight to help the birds find their way. Written and illustrated by Bob Bolling, with colors by Barry Grossman and letters by Bolling, this touching tale shines a gentle light on kindness and care. The cover by Dexter Taylor captures the moment with warmth and charm.

When the children are asked to write about the one thing they want for Christmas, Sue Stringly writes that all she wants is a light on the old water tower. She explains to Veronica that ducks keep flying into the water tower and getting hurt, and that she's been tending to the injuries of the fallen ducks. When another duck goes down while Ronnie is visiting, Sue gets angry, and the two girls climb to the top of the tower with a flashlight, which Sue uses to warn the ducks.
