History

Harvey Comics inherited the Little Audrey license from St. John Publications in 1952, continuing the series at #25 and steering it gradually away from its Paramount Famous Studios animated template. During the mid-1950s — the years leading directly to this final issue — the character was deliberately redesigned to align with Harvey's in-house visual style, and the storytelling shifted toward domestic situational comedy, placing Audrey in everyday conflicts with parents, teachers, and peers rather than the fantasy dream sequences that had characterized the early theatrical shorts. The primary artistic contributors to the Harvey run were Steve Muffatti (who had also drawn the 1951 King Features newspaper strip) along with Bill Hudson and Marty Taras on earlier issues. By the time #53 appeared in April 1957, Harvey was clearly planning the Playful Little Audrey relaunch, which arrived that June under cover artist Steve Muffatti.
