In "Patches to the Rescue," a young boy named Patches sets out on an adventurous expedition, only to stumble upon what he believes is an elephant's trunk—turning out to be a lost circus elephant named Bertram stuck in the mud. Determined to prove his discovery, Patches rallies his skeptical friends with a dramatic tug-of-war challenge, ultimately earning their respect and a special invitation to the circus show.

Little Audrey is determined to stay clean until Aunt Jane’s visit, promising herself a reward if she avoids messes—until she discovers that every fun, dirty activity is happening all at once. With her parents bribing her to behave and her dog covered in mud, she decides to skip the cleanup and instead embrace the mess, leading to a chaotic day of greasy play and paint-splattered adventures.

Audrey and Patches try to prove their luck on a day marked by ominous signs—Friday the 13th, a dire horoscope, and a string of mishaps—leading them to seek good luck charms like horseshoes and four-leaf clovers in a frantic effort to avoid disaster. As they scramble through a series of increasingly absurd misfortunes, their fear of bad luck only grows, until they finally realize the truth behind the day’s strange events.
