An unnamed woman recalls her romance with a man named Jed, whom she initially resisted but eventually agreed to date after he promised to bring Dr. Lorentz to a dance. She transformed herself with a new hairstyle and dress, and a week later found herself genuinely in love with Jed and eager to kiss him on the terrace, believing their happiness would last "always." In a separate text story, "The Truth about Flora," science teacher Martin Brooks reluctantly asks the prim and proper schoolteacher Miss Nora Ponsonby to the school prom, only to discover upon arriving at her home that she is far more attractive and glamorous than her modest school appearance suggests, leaving him realizing he is hopelessly trapped by his own feelings for her.
