After graduating college Nancy Thomas moves back to her hometown only to find most of her friends married or moved away. She meets an old acquaintance, Jerry, and they begin seeing each other, mainly at Nancy's house. Jerry brings along a group of friends and Nancy's house becomes party headquarters. At Peg's surprise birthday party she meets Peg's brother Ted and they hit it off. Jerry tells Charlie to lock Ted in the basement but Nancy overhears and puts a stop to it and tells Jerry whatever they had is over. The next day she sees Ted who has a black eye and they date and end up in love.
