When a man dressed as a doctor tricks an announcer into giving away silver dollars by posing as "Dr. Fizz" and promoting a soda product, Carson and others become entangled in the deception. The story includes a subplot with a professor and a rocket ship that the boys believe is bound for the moon, though the professor questions their seriousness about the journey. The narrative culminates in a golf outing where a missing scorecard and accusations of cheating create confusion among the characters.
Sandy and Spiderlegs get tricked into boarding Professor McSpang's experimental rocket ship as ballast for what's supposed to be a trip to the moon—only to discover they've actually been shanghaied by their friends Tubby and Patches, who need the adventure to help Sandy pass science class. When the rocket lands on what the professor insists is the moon, complete with canals and strange inhabitants, Sandy and Spider have to figure out whether they've really made it to another world or if something far stranger is going on.
When Sandy and Spiderlegs sign on as caddies for a golf outing, they discover their temperamental player, Mr. Slamm, is determined to break 95—no matter how many obstacles (including the caddies themselves) get in his way. As the round devolves into comic chaos, the boys resort to some creative rule-bending to keep their volatile employer in high spirits, leading to a finale that leaves everyone questioning exactly what happened on the course.
