Picking up from the previous volume, the story follows the group as they cross the wilderness and encounter the wolfbrother Elyas Machera, who aids them in their quest. Collecting issues of the 2013 Dynamite Entertainment series, this edition adapts the middle chapters of the original novel with art by Andie Tong and others.
In "Chapter One," the group presses on through the treacherous wilderness, only to be ambushed by a wave of trollocs led by a fearsome fade. With Lan's blade cutting down the creature, the party gains a fleeting reprieve—just enough to flee into the ruins of an ancient city, a place so dread that even the trollocs and myrddraals avoid it. Moiraine's cunning buys them precious time, but their only hope now lies in the unknown dangers within the crumbling walls.
In "Chapter Two," Rand, Mat, and Perrin venture into the cursed ruins of Shadar Logoth, drawn by whispers of forgotten treasure. When a figure known as Mordeth appears, offering riches in exchange for a share, Rand’s quick eyes catch the man’s absence of a shadow—and the warning is clear. As trollocs overrun the city, the boys are pushed deeper into the night’s dread, with Moiraine now aware of the danger that followed them from the shadows.
In "Chapter Three," the dark legacy of Shadar Logoth fractures the group as trollocs close in, scattering Egwene and Perrin into the river while Rand, Thom, and Mat seize a ship to escape. The next day, Lan, Moiraine, and Nynaeve face the task of regrouping their scattered companions, using Moiraine’s tokens to decide who to seek first.
In "Chapter Four," Perrin and Egwene reunite on a windswept shore, their paths crossing again after time apart. With cautious trust, they join forces with Elyas and his wolf companions, setting out on a journey whose direction remains uncertain but whose bond is beginning to form.
In "Chapter Five," the journey aboard the ship continues as Thom shares the ways of the gleeman with Rand and Mat, sharpening their skills and deepening their bond. Meanwhile, Perrin, Egwene, and Elyas encounter the mysterious Tuathan'an and find themselves drawn into a shared path, their fates now intertwined.
In "Chapter Six," Rand, Mat, and Thom arrive in Whitebridge after their journey by river, stepping ashore into a town already humming with danger. A warning reaches them in a tavern—someone or something has been searching for them—but before they can flee, the threat manifests as a Fade attacks Thom, forcing Rand and Mat to press eastward on their own.
