Shogun Warriors #4
In "The Mech-Monster," the Shogun Warriors continue their training at the sanctuary, uncovering new abilities in their mechs—Dangard Ace can transform into the Dreadnought-Titan, and Combatra can split into five vehicles: Delta V, Skyskater, Earthmover, Turbostreaker, and Groundrover. Meanwhile, Magar, Maur-Kon’s disillusioned lieutenant, steals the Mech-Monster—a dragonfly-like robot—and plunges it into magical lava, transforming it into a living, flesh-and-blood beast that takes flight and attacks Combatra. Written by Doug Moench and illustrated by Herb Trimpe, with inks by Dan Green, colors by Andy Yanchus, and letters by Jim Novak, this 1979 issue features a cover by Herb Trimpe and Jack Abel.

While doing some more training and bonding at the sanctuary, it's revealed to the pilots some more of the robots capabilities. Dangard Ace can transform into a ship called Dreadnought-Titan and Combatra can disassemble into 5 separate vehicles (Delta V, Skyskater, Earthmover, Turbostreaker, and Groundrover). Meanwhile Maur-Kon's lieutenant, Magar, is so distraught at Maur-Kon abandoning sorcery that he steals the Mech-Monster (a giant dragonfly like robot) and submerges it in the magical lava causing it to turn into a flesh and blood monster. The monster flys out and attacks Combatra.
