Conan entend l'histoire de Bêlit des lèvres de N'yaga. Bêlit est l'héritière légitime du trône d’Asaglun. Lorsqu'elle était enfant, son oncle Nim-Karrak renversa et tua son père, le roi. N'yaga lui sauva la vie et rejoignit sa tribu, où il répandit la légende selon laquelle Bêlit était la fille de Derketa, déesse de la mort. Bêlit devint le meilleur guerrier de la tribu. Le chef Uzumi, jaloux, l'envoya en mission suicide pour récupérer, l’œil argenté de Dagon, volée par Ceux de la Colline, mais il finit par se faire tuer. Nouveau chef, Bêlit devient pirate afin de financer sa vengeance.
