Väktaren berättar historien om vad som skulle ha hänt om någon annan hade fått spindelkrafter istället för Peter Parker. Flash Thompson hade blivit Kapten Spindel, men dött i kamp mot Gamen. Betty Brant hade blivit Spindelflickan, men lagt av efter att ha misslyckats med att stoppa den tjuv som rånmördade Peters farbror Ben. John Jameson hade på sin fars initiativ blivit Spindel-Jameson, men sedan offrat sitt liv för att rädda en astronaut.
