Athena Marmon once ruled New York society with her wealth, beauty and ability to make or break people socially. Now, in her old age, she agrees to have her memoirs published and Maggi sends Eve to handle the dictation. While there, Eve meets Billy, the son of a man who once rejected Athena in favor of another woman. Now Athena accuses Billy's late father of forgery and blackmails Eve into having the accusation included in her memoirs. But Athena's longtime servant, Louis, stands up to her and tells the truth. Billy proposes to Eve and Eve decides to return to Devon to think about it.
