Jenny had lived in New Zealand until her mum and dad died when her grandfather sent for her to come and live with him and her cousin at Cholm Hall. Jenny meets David on the way there, but when she casually mentions his name her grandfather says he will not have his name mentioned in his house and forbids her to speak to him. She sees David anyway and discovers that he is a musician. He writes a new song for a musical and calls it "Jenny's Tune".
