“Dinosaur Bait!”

In "Dinosaur Bait!", a 1964 DC classic, two brothers—Jim and Nicky—find themselves in a prehistoric peril when a mysterious creature snatches a submarine in Area X-9. With Jim as bait aboard the sub and Nicky flying overhead in a bomber, the duo must survive a deadly clash with a dinosaur fish, a flying dinosaur, and a swarm of pterodactyls before crash-landing on Dinosaur Island. Written by Robert Kanigher and illustrated by Ross Andru with inks by Mike Esposito, the story blends wartime tension with primal adventure, all wrapped in a cover by Andru and Esposito that captures the chaos in bold, dynamic lines.

Subs are disappearing in Area X-9. Jim will command a sub as "bait" while brother Nicky shepherds in his bomber aloft. The sub is nabbed by a "dinosaur fish", but the bomber is attacked by a flying dinosaur, then a flock of pterodactyls. The bomber plops atop a ptero and the crew bails out. Landing (on Dinosaur Island), they fight dinosaurs... Nicky recalls how older brother Jim would use him a bait to lure rival gangs into ambush... The bomber crew uses life rafts to reach the beached sub. They KO the last dinosaurs and the brother reunite. Just like old times.
