With Ambassador Hendryk dying and the Cardassian peace talks in jeopardy, Geordi tasks Barclay with developing an unusual method to keep the ambassador alive. When the efforts fail and Hendryk is near death, he transfers his Katra to the nearest Vulcan, Dr. Selar. Selar had witnessed her father's death years before and witnessed him passing on his Katra to her mother, so she takes the responsibility for Hendryk's Katra very seriously. When the peace talks start to fall apart Picard asks Selar to represent Hendryk in the negotiations.
