Superman Annual #2

Dec 1960 · DC · 0.25 USD
“The Invulnerable Enemy”

In "The Invulnerable Enemy," Superman faces his most cunning foe yet when the alien Brainiac steals Metropolis and plans to shrink Earth’s cities for his own world. With Lois Lane by his side, Clark Kent battles Brainiac’s schemes, uncovering a hidden bottle city of Kandor and using its ancient science to save Earth—though not before making a quiet promise to preserve Kandor in his Fortress. Written by Otto Binder and illustrated by Al Plastino, with Curt Swan and Stan Kaye bringing the cover to life, this 1960 Annual is a classic tale of courage, sacrifice, and the enduring power of hope.

While on an experimental rocket, Clark and Lois encounter the alien Brainiac, who plans to shrink and bottle the great cities of Earth and then use them to repopulate his planet. Superman gets inside Brainiac’s ship when the villain snatches Metropolis and there finds a bottle with the Kryptonian city of Kandor. He enters the bottle and with the help of a scientist there restores the cities of Earth while Brainiac lies in suspended animation for his trip home. Because there is not enough power to restore Kandor, Superman places the city in his Fortress, as Brainiac rockets away empty-handed.
