“Le rival de Superman”

In "Le rival de Superman," a lab mishap grants Jimmy Olsen the unexpected power of fire-breath, turning his well-meaning attempt to raise funds into a dangerous ordeal when a criminal known as "Hot Shot" Holton forces him into a string of robberies. With Superman's help just out of reach, Jimmy must find a way to reclaim control—before his new ability becomes his undoing. Otto Binder writes this classic tale, brought to life by Curt Swan’s dynamic art and Ray Burnley’s inks, while Kurt Schaffenberger’s cover captures the fiery tension of the story.

An accident involving an experiment of Prof. Potter's gives Jimmy fire-breath. When he accidentally burns $1,000 meant for charity, Jimmy tries to use his abilities to raise replacement funds. In doing so, however, he draws the attention of "Hot Shot" Holton, who forces Jimmy to use his fire-breath to commit robberies. But Jimmy uses his fire-breath to signal Superman, and eventually douses his fire with mere water.
