"The Man from Ulathi" follows a Marine pilot whose damaged dive bomber is forced down in the South Pacific during November 1942. After spotting a nearby island as a potential landing site, the pilot crash-lands and is rescued by a sailor named Robinson Crusoe, who has been stranded on the island. The pilot learns that Crusoe beat him in a fight three times before, and the two must work together when heavy artillery fire from the other shore threatens to shell the island and destroy the bridges, leading them to use refugees as shields against the bombardment.
