Michael Straczynski and illustrated by Ron Garney, with inks by Bill Reinhold, colors by Matt Milla, and letters by VC's Cory Petit, the cover by Ron Garney captures the moment’s raw tension.

Aunt May has lapsed into a coma and Peter performs a methodical and ruthless search for the sniper who shot her. He tracks down Jake Martino to the train station and beats him close to death trying to find who hired him. Before he can get any answers, however, Jake is shot by an unknown assailant. Spider-Man rides Jake's ambulance to the very hospital and gets the bad news from Mary Jane that she is probably not going to survive. Peter senses a spider tracer close by and finds the man who shot Jake on a cell phone. He takes the phone and finds the Kingpin on the other end of the line.
