The Amazing Spider-Man #541
In "Back in Black Part 3," Spider-Man confronts the brutal truth behind Aunt May’s attack, tracking down the sniper responsible and dragging him into the city’s underbelly for answers. With May’s condition worsening and their resources drained, Peter makes a desperate choice—using his own blood in a risky transfusion, hoping to save her as he has before. Just as Kingpin orchestrates his escape from prison, Spider-Man arrives to settle the score, setting the stage for a showdown that could change everything. Written by J. Michael Straczynski and illustrated by Ron Garney, with inks by Bill Reinhold, colors by Matt Milla, and letters by VC's Cory Petit, the issue’s cover by Ron Garney captures the tension in a stark, powerful image.

Now that he knows the Kingpin ordered the hit that brought down Aunt May, Spider-Man takes the goon who shot sniper Jake Martino down to the sewers and mercilessly pumps him for information. Returning to the hospital and finding that Aunt May is not getting any better, with their money running out, Peter gives Aunt May a transfusion of his own blood as this has helped her recover in the past. Knowing that Spider-Man is onto him, Kingpin pays off the prison guards to bring him his clothes and open the doors so he can escape. As he is walking out, Spider-Man arrives for a confrontation.
