The Crusades #5
In *The Crusades* #5 (2001), Venus finds herself caught in the escalating conflict as the mysterious Knight confronts the Pope’s enforcers, who are trying to force the refusal of priests to abandon a religious school seized through deceit. With Marx grappling with his own uncertainty—admitting he doesn’t know the Knight’s identity to Petronas, yet later hinting he does to April—the story deepens into a quiet but ominous reckoning, leaving San Francisco as a city on edge. Written by Steven T. Seagle and illustrated by Kelley Jones, with inks by Jason Moore and Cameron Stewart, colors by Daniel Vozzo, and lettering by Comicraft, the issue’s stark tone is matched by Duncan Fegredo’s haunting cover.

Venus is caught in the crossfire as the Knight takes on The Pope's men as they attempt to kill the priests who refuse to leave the religious school, acquired by the Pope through underhanded means. Marx finally admits to Petronas that he doesn't know the Knight's identity but later tells April he knows who he is - he's the guy who watches when you're doing wrong and will hold you accountable for it. And San Francisco should take that as a warning.
