Umbra returns to Talok VIII and finds that her homeworld has retreated from the United Planets and clothed itself in darkness for protection. She learns that when she was presumed dead, Talok VIII created a new champion with her cousin Grev, using off-world technology to amplify his latent abilities. But Umbra discovers that the technology has been malfunctioning and that Grev has died. So she reclaims the shadow and returns light to her planet.
