The story also marks the death of Karras, Starfire's husband, a pivotal emotional beat in Koriand'r's long-running character arc that had been seeded across years of Marv Wolfman's Tamaran-focused storytelling. Written by Marv Wolfman — who had shepherded the Titans franchise continuously since 1980 — the annual was edited by Jonathan Peterson, who had recently taken over editorial duties on the New Titans line and would soon push for the more aggressive 'Titans Hunt' era beginning with issue #71. The interior art was shared across three pencillers: Curt Swan, Paris Cullins, and Tom Grindberg, with Al Vey on inks, Adrienne Roy on colors, and Tom Grummett and Dick Giordano handling the cover — a notably crowded creative team that reflects the expanded page count of the annual format. A playful in-house credit appears in the issue: letterer John Workman is listed under the alias 'Harvey Kworkman.' The annual was published with a cover date of September 1990, released in late July of that year, and falls in the early part of the New Titans rebranding period that had begun with issue #50 in late 1988.
