The Depths!" makes for a gripping title as The Shadow clings to the side of a massive, otherworldly creature, dagger in hand, while a woman in purple scrambles desperately above him — explosions and silhouetted figures visible in the chaotic distance behind them. The cover art by Joe Quesada (pencils) and Michael Bair (inks) gives the scene a wonderful sense of vertigo, pulling your eye down the creature's enormous form alongside the two figures in peril. With Gerard Jones, Rod Whigham, and Mike DeCarlo on the interior, this 1992 DC series continues to deliver pulpy, atmospheric adventure worthy of the Shadow's enduring mystique.
