The Web #12

Issue #12 of Impact Comics' The Web brings "The Gauntlet" to a head with a cover by Gil Kane that crackles with raw energy — the Web in his yellow costume surges fists-first through a massive, weapon-wielding mob, while a red-white-and-blue shield-bearing hero battles alongside him in the thick of the chaos. Kane's dynamic staging packs the image with snarling faces, pitchforks, and rifles, making it immediately clear these two heroes are outnumbered but far from outmatched. With interior work from Len Strazewski, Mark McKenna, and artist Hoang Nguyen, this 1992 installment of DC's Impact line delivers the kind of street-level superhero action the series does best.
