TMNT: The Last Ronin #4

The cover of this 2021 IDW issue says everything with quiet devastation: a lone bo staff and a battered journal rest in the snow, surrounded by drops of blood and a trail of footprints leading into a bare, wintry forest bathed in cold amber light. It's a beautifully restrained image from cover artists Esau and Isaac Escorza that captures the weight of the story's subtitle, "Blood in Snow," without needing a single figure on the page. The Last Ronin continues to distinguish itself as one of TMNT's most emotionally serious chapters, and issue four looks every bit as haunting as its predecessors.
