Kevin Brooks Eastman, born May 30, 1962, is an American comic book writer and artist whose career has been defined above all by a single transformative co-creation. Working alongside Peter Laird in 1984, Eastman helped bring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to life — a concept that began as a small-press experiment and grew into one of the most recognizable franchises in popular culture. His catalog across the following four decades is substantial, spanning artist, writer, colorist, inker, and letterer roles on more than 280 issues, with the Turtles remaining a consistent throughline from the original run through later IDW collections, color classics editions, and crossover projects such as Batman / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III.
Beyond the Turtles, Eastman served as editor and publisher of Heavy Metal, the long-running magazine known for its mature, internationally influenced approach to sequential art — a role that placed him at the center of a very different corner of the comics world. His creator-driven projects, including Drawing Blood and Fistful of Blood, reflect a taste for grittier, more visceral storytelling. Whether working within established franchises or developing original material, Eastman has sustained a hands-on presence in comics across an unusually long and varied stretch of the medium's modern history.
