Tom Mix investigates "The Pack Train Mystery," uncovering a plot involving a man with a red chin who has stolen gold from a stagecoach and locked up the varmints. After a confrontation in which Tom disarms his opponent, the villain escapes but is later tracked down in wild, mountainous country near Garrett Valley.
