Weird Fantasy #10
In "The Secret of Saturn's Ring!", a stranded crew faces a grim choice on a hostile planet, where even the local food is deadly. With rations gone and desperation mounting, the captain makes a terrible decision—one that forces him to lie to save his men’s souls, even as the ship’s reactor finally powers up. Written by Al Feldstein and illustrated by Joe Orlando, this chilling tale of survival and sacrifice is a standout in EC’s classic Weird Fantasy series, with Al Feldstein also handling the cover art.

A crew makes an emergency landing on a planet after their engine reactor is damaged. They need to stay there while the reactor recharges. Months pass and they run out of rations. The food on the planet is poisonous and inedible. When the crew contemplate cannibalism, the captain tells them they can eat the food because he treated it. They do and die. The reason the captain lied was because he'd rather have he and his men die than resort to cannibalism. Just as he eats the poison food, the reactor of the ship has finally been recharged.
