Weird Fantasy #20
In "…For Us the Living," a man trapped in a life of state-enforced existence attempts suicide again and again—only to be revived each time, his body deemed State Property. When he finally chooses to end himself by plunging into molten slag, his consciousness survives, reborn in a machine forged from the very substance meant to destroy him. Written by Al Feldstein and illustrated by Joe Orlando, with bold inks and vivid colors by Marie Severin, this haunting tale from EC’s Weird Fantasy #20 (1953) explores identity and control in a world where even death is denied. The cover, a stark and striking image by Al Feldstein, captures the story’s chilling atmosphere.
