What If...? #13

May 1990 · Marvel · 1.25 USD; 1.75 CAD; 0.60 GBP
“What if Professor X had Become the Juggernaut?”

In *What If...? #13*, writer Kurt Busiek and artist Vince Mielcarek explore a chilling alternate reality where Professor X—rather than Cain Marko—becomes the Juggernaut after touching the ruby of Cyttorak. Trapped under rubble in Korea for years, Xavier survives, observing the world’s cruelty toward mutants, until he emerges to seize control with a force of mutant X-Men. When Cyclops and a defiant few break away, teaming with Magneto and the original Juggernaut, they plot to stop the man who was once their mentor—now a tyrant beyond reason. Jim Lee’s striking cover captures the moment of transformation, while the story unfolds with tense, morally complex stakes.

Charles Xavier, not Cain Marko, touches the ruby of Cyttorak and becomes the unstoppable Juggernaut. Buried under a ton of rubble in Korea, Xavier struggles for years to free himself, all the while monitoring the plight of mutants on Earth. When he finally emerges, he takes over the world with his army of mutant X-Men and rules with an iron hand. After years of watching the injustices done to humans, Cyclops takes a small band of X-Men and breaks away from Juggernaut. Teaming up with Magneto and Cain, they formulate a plan to stop the Juggernaut for good.
