"Wounded Cowman" by Whitman Marsh tells of Doc Steed, a newly arrived doctor in the frontier town of New Rockport who treats a nester named Ephraim Teller for a rifle wound; when the town turns against Steed after the shooting is ruled accidental, Ephraim's daughter Mary Lou confronts the doctor at gunpoint, forcing him to choose between leaving town or proving his integrity by helping her family, ultimately leading to a confrontation where Steed demonstrates his courage and earns the respect of the townspeople.
