Garth Ennis and a rotating team of artists including Goran Parlov, Leandro Fernández, and Lewis LaRosa brought Frank Castle to Marvel's MAX line for a brutally grounded, 11-issue run from 2004 to 2009. Stripping away superhero trappings, this series plunged the Punisher into a grim, real-world landscape of organized crime and moral ambiguity, with Ennis’s signature dark humor and unflinching violence defining the tone. Gregg Hurwitz later contributed to the arc, cementing this as a definitive, adult-oriented take on the character that pushed the boundaries of Marvel's mature-readers imprint.
