About the series
From 1957 to 1982, Harvey Comics published Sad Sack and the Sarge, a long-running series spinning off George Baker's classic WWII cartoon into a lighter, all-ages comedy. Fred Rhoads and Warren Kremer were the primary creative forces, chronicling the hapless private Sad Sack and his perpetually exasperated superior, Sarge, alongside a supporting cast including General Rockjaw and Sadie Sack. Over 157 issues, the book shifted from military slapstick to more domestic and schoolyard humor, reflecting the changing tastes of its young readers. It stands as a key example of Harvey's ability to sustain a character-driven humor comic for decades.
