Sub-Mariner Comics
Marvel · 1941–1949 · 32 issues
About the series
Bill Everett co-created Namor, the Sub-Mariner, for Marvel's Golden Age, and this series—running 32 issues from 1941 to 1949—anchored the fiery-tempered prince of Atlantis in his own title. Alongside Everett's distinctive art and writing, Bill Woolfolk and Mickey Spillane contributed scripts, while Allen Simon and Carl Pfeufer handled art, with the book often doubling as a showcase for other Timely heroes like the Human Torch and the Angel. A key piece of Marvel's wartime publishing line, Sub-Mariner Comics cemented Namor as one of the medium's first antiheroes, a brooding force of nature whose underwater kingdom clashed with the surface world.
