The Human Torch
Marvel · 1940–1954 · 38 issues
About the series
In the early days of Marvel's Golden Age, The Human Torch (1940–1954) blazed across 38 issues as a cornerstone of superhero storytelling. Most closely associated with writer-artist Carl Burgos, who co-created the android hero Jim Hammond, the series also featured contributions from crime novelist Mickey Spillane and artists like Mike Sekowsky. Alongside his fiery adventures, the Torch frequently clashed with Namor the Sub-Mariner and mentored his sidekick Toro, while also sharing the spotlight with Thomas Raymond's original Human Torch. It matters as a foundational Marvel title that helped define the superhero genre's early energy and rivalry.
