U.S. 1
Marvel · 1983–1984 · 12 issues
About the series
In the early 1980s, Marvel took a sharp turn into cross-country trucking action with U.S. 1, a 12-issue series following the adventures of ace trucker U.S. Archer and his colorful supporting cast, including the formidable Wide-Load Annie and the Wheeler family. Written primarily by Al Milgrom and drawn by a rotating team of Frank Springer, Alan Kupperberg, and Herb Trimpe, the series blended high-octane highway chases with a distinctly blue-collar, Americana flavor. Though short-lived, it stands as a curious and earnest Marvel experiment in genre storytelling far from superheroes, capturing the spirit of the open road in the 1980s.
