Tony DiPreta
Tony DiPreta was an American comic book and comic strip artist best known as the longtime successor on the newspaper strip *Joe Palooka* and for his later work on *Rex Morgan, M.D.* Born Anthony Louis DiPreta on July 9, 1921, he began his career during the Golden Age of comics in the 1940s. Over six decades, he worked as an artist, colorist, inker, and letterer on 81 issues, with his most credited titles including *Mystic*, *Secrets of the Unknown*, *Journey into Mystery*, *Mystery Tales*, *Journey into Unknown Worlds*, and *Spellbound*. From 1959 to 1984, DiPreta was the successor artist on *Joe Palooka*, the popular sports-themed strip created by Ham Fisher. He then drew the *Rex Morgan, M.D.* daily strip from 1983 until his retirement in 2000. DiPreta died on June 2, 2010. His steady, reliable work across both comic books and newspaper strips made him a quiet but essential figure in mid-century American comics.
